Expectant Mothers Q & A

How does your pediatrician support expectant parents?

When you are expecting a new baby, one of your top priorities is to find a pediatrician you can trust with their health.

The Virginia Pediatric Group team believes that supporting a child's parents and family is also essential to their health and optimal wellness. They appreciate that to care well for your child means they are available to support you, even before your baby is born.

At Virginia Pediatric Group, expectant and new parents are welcome to ask questions, share concerns, explore the practice, and get to know the clinicians you trust to care for your little one.

What services are available for expectant parents?

Before your child is born, Virginia Pediatric Group offers services such as:

  • Prenatal office tours
  • Prenatal visits with your pediatrician
  • Prenatal breastfeeding classes
  • Car seat recommendations

They can also help arrange a tour for hospitals where they see newborn patients, including Inova Fairfax in Falls Church, Virginia, Inova Fair Oaks in Fairfax, Virginia, HCA Reston Hospital Center in Reston, Virginia, and HCA Stone Springs Hospital Center in Aldie, Virginia.

As an expectant parent, how can I prepare for my newborn?

While you wait for the birth of your little one, you can follow the instructions of your OB/GYN to maintain a healthy pregnancy, as well as:

  • Schedule a prenatal office tour
  • Meet with your pediatrician
  • Meet with your lactation consultant, if you expect to breastfeed
  • Purchase and install a recommended car seat
  • Collect items such as diapers, clothing, and bedding

When you pre-register or check in at the hospital of your choice, mark Virginia Pediatric Group as your pediatrician and specify the clinician of your choice. Your hospital notifies their office and provides your newborn's records.

If you deliver your baby at Reston Hospital Center, Inova Fairfax (or Children’s )Hospital, Inova Fair Oaks Hospital, or Stone Springs Hospital Center, the rounding VPG physician will visit you and your newborn in the hospital. If you deliver elsewhere, they see you in the office 1-2 days after discharge.
