Developmental Specialist. As part of the VPG team, Katherine is dedicated to supporting parents, babies, and families as they begin their breastfeeding journey, helping them build confidence and achieve their individual feeding goals.
Katherine believes that honoring a family’s infant-feeding goals and providing evidence-based tools and resources in a safe, supportive environment lays the foundation for responsive caregiving and a deeper understanding of both a baby’s and parent’s needs. Her approach emphasizes attunement, co-regulation, and developmentally informed care.
A mother of three daughters and a former social worker, Katherine witnessed firsthand how well-intentioned interventions can sometimes become barriers to a parent’s breastfeeding goals. In 2000, she shifted her professional focus to providing families with individualized, evidence-based lactation and developmental support, helping parents recognize and respond to their baby’s unique cues within the context of their shared developmental journey.
Katherine has practiced in a wide range of inpatient, outpatient, and community-based settings, working with families of full-term, late preterm, and premature infants. Her experience includes large and small group education, home visits, and the creation of postpartum support groups that foster connection and community. She has also been actively involved in training medical professionals and educators on topics including attachment, attunement, and co-regulation. Throughout her career, Katherine has worked with diverse parent populations, including teen parents, military families, Non-native English speakers and refugee mothers. She considers it a sacred privilege to work with families during the early months of parenthood.
In fall 2025, Katherine and her husband relocated from Minnesota to the Fairfax area to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren. Outside of her professional life, Katherine enjoys spending time with her family, singing, exercising, traveling with friends, and being an active grandmother. She and her husband live in the Fairfax area.
