Dr. Renfield is a graduate of Duke University and George Washington University School of Medicine. She is Board Certified in Pediatrics and Neonatal and Perinatal Medicine, having been head of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at GW University Hospital and is now on the faculty of GW School of Medicine. In addition she has received further training in Child and Adult Psychiatry and Child Developmental Disorders.

She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, American Psychiatric Association, Washington Council of Child Psychiatry, Fairfax Medical Society, Virginia Medical Society, American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, and a Professional Advisor for Depression after Delivery.
