| Dorinda W. Burroughs, M.Ed. Mrs. Burroughs holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Virginia. She has licensed endorsements in learning disabilities, gifted and talented, behavior disorders, and general education. Mrs. Burroughs also has received post graduated training in the diagnosing and treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorders from the National Institute of Mental Health and the American Health Institute. She is a frequent participant in workshops and training from organizations such as the Brain Injury Association. In the capacity of Educational Specialist, Mrs. Burroughs - Conducts psycho-educational evaluations, combining educational and psychological techniques; - Offers counseling and guidance to child, family and school; - Provides specific behavioral and treatment plans; - Assists in college planning and searches. - Provides cognitive rehabilitation and training to patients who have experienced TBI, ABI, seizure disorders, and other medical conditions that affect learning and performance; - Provides counseling and treatment to students from many local colleges and universities As a former Learning Disabilities Specialist with Fairfax County Public Schools, Mrs. Burroughs has been involved with the diagnosis and treatment of special needs students for over twenty five years. She has conducted numerous teacher and parent workshops and training programs throughout Northern Virginia. Additionally, Mrs. Burroughs offers cognitive rehabilitation and executive functioning students and adults. She develops treatment plans that enable patients to work through thinking exercises that restore attention, memory, word recall, and other language abilities. Task analysis and academic coaching techniques are a part of the process as well. In addition to Virginia Pediatric patients, Mrs. Burroughs receives referrals from psychiatrists, neurologists, and other physicians throughout the Northern Virginia area. |
