ADHD/LD Educational and Behavioral Issues
Our counseling services include psychotherapy, parenting counseling, group therapy, and behavior modification. These services are coordinated with our medical, educational and/or developmental services when indicated. Educational services include assessing children for learning disabilities and can be very helpful identifying educational pathways for children who are educationally challenged or gifted. Child Development
Our Developmental Specialist is available to perform routine assessments for healthy children at 8 to 10 months and 2 to 3 years. These evaluations cover the developmental milestones for infants and children, include discussions on your child's strengths and weaknesses and provide you with suggestions for developmental stimulation, toys and further reading. In depth evaluation and management of developmental problems and high risk children are also available. Details may be obtained from our Developmental Specialist, Janet Black.
Lactation
VPG advocates breast feeding as the most advantageous and natural form of infant nutrition. Our certified lactation consultant can provide expert pre and post partum assistance to help ensure a successful effort. more...
Home Care
We are fortunate to work closely with a pediatric specialty home care agency. Dr. Libby is a certified Home Care Medical Director and oversees the medical operations of American Pediatric Consultants. They provide a variety of important services in the home, such as phototherapy for jaundice of the newborn, infant apnea monitors, home nebulizers for asthma, intravenous medications and nutrition, home nursing care for medically fragile children, and post-surgical care. Sick Visits
Sick child visits are scheduled on a daily basis. If your child seems sick to a worrisome degree, please call and schedule a sick visit appointment on the appointment line, or call and speak to a doctor or nurse during phone hours, to see if a sick visit is needed.
Check-ups
Routine physical examinations are performed one week after hospital nursery discharge, ages 2, 4, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18 and 24 months, annually to age 6, then every 2 years through adolescence. Vaccines, laboratory testing, vision and hearing testing, developmental testing and growth monitoring are scheduled as part of the check-ups. Please make check-up appointments several weeks in advance if your have a preference of doctors and appointment times.
Emergencies
If you believe your child is experiencing a life-threatening emergency, CALL 911. When possible, we will call the emergency room and prepare the way for you. We prefer the emergency room the INOVA Fairfax Hospital for children for pediatric emergencies. Poison Control is at 1-800-222-1222. Please purchase syrup of Ipecac at the pharmacy and keep it at home in case Poison Control asks you to use it. Please childproof your home!
